The Buba set is one of TwentySix classic and staple style, Inspired by traditional ”Buba and Kembe” clothing of Yoruba men. This style of clothing is set to have be influenced by trading with Arabian traders through. The Yoruba clothes were made with Arabian design principles in terms of their shapes and then embellished with traditional motifs. A common style worn by hunter and farmers is the Kukomo. It has a slit by the neck and arm holes by the site. Made with woven cotton or silk for man with higher societal status.
The Buba is pared with a Kembe or agbenugbangba (loosely translated as Big Mouth) . It is a wide Leg trouser reaching the ankle with aa drawstring to hold at the waist.
The silhouette of a modern take on the Buba and Kembe has remained largely unchanged through the years but only in the material they are made in. They are made mostly in cotton fabric, while ones made Aso -Oke are typically worn for special occasions.
Our Buba Set is a nod to the elegant Buba and Kembe worn through the history by royals, kinsmen, famers, hunters, worn for celebration, gatherings and work. Ours was made from cotton fabric, the print was made by hand-dyed using traditional methods by artisans in Nigeria.
